Chicagoland Storm Damage Update: Verified Hail and Wind Areas (2025–2026)

Severe weather has not been limited to Tinley Park, Hinsdale, and Naperville. National Weather Service reports from the last 12 months document one-inch-or-larger hail and damaging wind across several Chicagoland corridors, including Bradley, Bourbonnais, Kankakee, Huntley, Lemont, Orland Park, Plainfield, Shorewood, and many western suburbs.
A storm report confirms what was observed at a specific time and location; it does not prove that every property in the city was damaged. Hail size and wind effects can change block by block. A property-specific inspection should be based on visible conditions, not a city name alone.
South and southwest suburbs
• Tinley Park — 1.75-inch hail was reported on July 27, 2026, along with tree-limb and utility-pole damage.
• Lemont — 1.75-inch hail was reported southeast of Lemont on July 27, with downed trees also documented in the area.
• Orland Park — the NWS confirmed an EF-0 tornado and 85 mph estimated peak winds on July 27. This is a wind-damage service area; the report should not be described as citywide hail.
• Homer Glen — 1.25-inch hail was reported on July 27, 2026, and again during the May 15, 2025 severe-weather event.
• Mokena, Frankfort, New Lenox, Joliet, and surrounding Will County communities also had documented severe wind, tornado, or hail reports during 2025–2026 events.
Bradley, Bourbonnais, and Kankakee corridor
• Bradley — 2-inch hail was reported on March 10, 2026, including a report of hail breaking windows.
• Kankakee area — 2.75-inch hail was reported three miles west of Kankakee Airport on March 10.
• Bourbonnais — 3-inch hail was reported on March 10. These are direct NWS local storm reports and make the Kankakee County corridor a high-priority inspection area.
Huntley and northwest suburbs
• Huntley — the June 24, 2026 event produced 1-inch and 1.5-inch hail reports. The NWS also documented tornado-related or severe-wind damage near Huntley.
• Woodstock — 1-inch hail was reported during the August 16–17, 2025 event.
• Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, Mount Prospect, and Des Plaines — 1-inch hail was reported during that same August 2025 event.
Western suburbs and DuPage County
• Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills — reports included 1.75-inch to 2-inch hail on July 27, 2026.
• Oak Brook, Westmont, Downers Grove, and Willowbrook — multiple reports ranged from roughly 1.25 inches to 2 inches on July 27.
• Lisle, Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Villa Park, Elmhurst, and Glendale Heights — reports included hail from 1 inch to 1.5 inches.
• Naperville and Woodridge — 1.5-inch hail was reported in Naperville and 1-inch hail in Woodridge during the August 16–17, 2025 event.
• Batavia — 1.75-inch hail and an 80–85 mph microburst were documented on June 8, 2025.
Will and Grundy County corridor
• Plainfield — 1.75-inch hail was reported on July 27, 2026.
• Shorewood — reports ranged from 1.5 inches to 3 inches on July 27; additional 1-inch hail was reported March 30–31.
• Minooka — reports ranged from 1.5 inches to 2 inches on July 27.
• Joliet and Rockdale — Joliet had 1-inch hail reported July 3, while Rockdale had 1.75-inch hail during the March 30–31 event.
What homeowners should do next
Stay off wet or damaged roofs. From the ground, look for missing or creased shingles, displaced siding, fresh gutter dents, damaged vents, fallen branches, or signs of water entering the attic. Photograph visible conditions and record the date and location.
